Founded in 1936, the Prevention of Blindness Society of Metropolitan Washington (POB), the largest local prevention of blindness agency in the United States, is dedicated to the improvement and preservation of sight by providing services, education, advocacy and innovation. POB screens more than 7,500 children annually for vision loss and strabismus and 5,000 adults for glaucoma. POB also serves nearly 8,000 low-income and homeless persons at its eyeglasses clinic, along with sponsoring the Aging Eye Network, the Macular Degeneration Network and Stargardt’s Network (Stargardt’s is a form of macular degeneration, usually affecting people before the age of 20.)

Our visit will include the opportunity learn more about POB and The Look Again Resale Shop from Michelle Hartlove, Executive Director and Margaret Ray, Manager.  While there you will be able to browse through the shop and purchase items as you like.

We are also invited to bring items to donate to the shop.  All proceeds are tax-deductible and benefit POB’s sight-saving programs.   The donatable items of most interest include…antiques, art, books, bric-a-brac, china, vintage clothing, collectibles, jewelry, kitchen items, small rugs in good condition and tools.

Note: We’d love to have you present at both the Resale Shop and Lunch, but if your schedule only allows you to attend one or the other, that’s OK too.
